Employment law changes from 6 April 2014

Did you know that from 6 April 2014:

  • The standard rate for statutory sick pay will increase from £86.70 to £87.55 a week as long as weekly average earnings reach at least £111.
  • The rate for statutory maternity pay will increase from £136.78 to £138.18 a week.  The same increase also applies to the weekly flat rate of Statutory Adoption Leave, Ordinary Statutory Paternity Pay and Additional Statutory Paternity Pay. 
  • The right to request flexible working will no longer be limited to parents and carers but will be available to all employees with at least six months service, and all employers will have a duty to consider requests.
  • Employment tribunals will have the power to impose additional financial penalties of between £100 – £5,000 on employers if they lose a tribunal case in particular circumstances.
